Getting A Job In Healthcare

Many people dressed up as a doctor or nurse as a child, but if you’re all grown up and still dream of a career in healthcare, then the National Health Service has some great opportunities.
It employs more than 1.5 million workers, making it the UK’s largest employer – and the fourth largest in the whole world, behind only the Chinese army, the Indian Railway and Wal-Mart.
On average there are 10,000 jobs available in the NHS at any one time – and it’s not just healthcare jobs that the NHS offers – with more than 350 different career opportunities available, ranging from scientists to gardeners, IT specialists to radiographers.
In-job training
No matter what jobs you’ve done in the past, you’ll have skills that the NHS can use. And if you don’t want to do a full-time degree or diploma, but want to go into healthcare, you can be retrained as you work to do a range of different jobs.
For example, clinical support staff assist healthcare professionals, sometimes working alongside them. You might be based in a lab helping to diagnose conditions, working in a hospital or clinic, or visiting patients’ homes to help with treatment or provide general care.
You can be employed as a healthcare assistant or auxiliary nurse without qualifications, and can work towards an NVQ in Care up to level 3. You can work your way up to a position as a nurse from an unqualified support role by training for a registered nursing degree or diploma.
However, if you want to go straight into nursing or midwifery from university, you can usually get a bursary and funding from the NHS.
Private healthcare jobs
There are also a huge number of private sector healthcare jobs available in the UK. Four of the largest independent healthcare organisations in the country are Bupa, Spire Healthcare, BMI Healthcare and Nuffield Health Hospitals.

Hospitals carry liability insurance for their nurses. It is unlikely that a nurse will get sued unless she/he does something very deliberate and intentional to harm a patient.

July 14th, 2010 at 6:13 amThis problem all started with malpractice lawsuits.
July 14th, 2010 at 6:15 amIt drove the price up so high, for everyone in the medical profession to have to cover themselves from getting sued, that it's now costing us all MUCH more than it did in past times.
Blame the lawyers, but much more than that, blame all the lazy bastards who look at getting injured, or any mistake that may happen while being treated, as if they just won the lottery.
But ObamaJugend Fuhrer, I think they truly believe their corrupted leaders, the ones who say they want healthcare for all and all that nice bull crap when what they really want is more control over the economy and over the personal lives of the american citizens. They honestly want a better world, they are just on the wrong side, the side which sprouts idealistic rhetoric which can never be implemented, and does evil behind its own supporters backs. I can’t support your divisive comments.

July 15th, 2010 at 3:02 amWill Obama health plan change the way the average American gets his/her health care? It remains to be seen. A lot of people are commenting as if results are evident. They are not at this point, either positive or negative. It is just too early.
July 15th, 2010 at 1:47 pm@jwolfson1233 – Simply disagreeing with leftists is considered divisive. As Reagan said “Don’t be afraid to see what you see” – people like breeze are ideologically retarded- there is no way to sugarcoat it and no way to have reasonable discussion with many of them. The intentions of left-wing policy may or may not be good, but the results are always bad. Liberalism needs to be judged on results, not supposed good intentions.
July 15th, 2010 at 5:34 pmWith the privatized health care, privatized jails, everyone in politics is out to make a buck while the people? suffer. Your leaders have completely fucked you over for years. They hire a guy to be the “leader” but we all know who is making the decisions (corrupted politicians). Now there’s finally someone making progress and actually leading and everyone is frightened. You think your country is perfect as is? Change will be for the better don’t be scared

Breeze787, you believe that your behavior would attract more people than that of Obamajugendfuhrer? At least he is right, and not spouting ideologue of the administration as though it is facts. It appears that throughout your arguements you have literally quoted Pres. Obama in speeches, and then framed them as your own. Don’t for one second believe that I still have any hope of attracting you, you are so controlled by the admin. that when VP Biden wakes up scratching a hernia, its you.
