I use Armour thyroid. It's the oldest thyroid medication and it works well. The other person mentioned Naturethroid. It works well too. Below are some links on Armour. Best of luck with the upcoming birth.
August 25th, 2010 at 4:56 amPersonally, I'm glad the FDA is there. I've heard of so many scams where manufacturers don't actually put in what they say they've put into "health supplements."
If you want to choose alternative methods, the best way is to grow it yourself, or get it from a trusted grower. I don't think the FDA will ever figure out a way to regulate nettles.
We need government oversight for herbal products — there are too many quacks and scamsters out there ready to take advantage of people who read on Yahoo! Answers that creatine was good, or people who heard from some friend that milk thistle will cure cancer.
I'm not saying that herbs are bad — but the consumer needs to take the time to research what they are getting , their dis-ease, and various other things. No one wants to return to the days of Lily The Pink's magical elixirs.

August 25th, 2010 at 5:15 amIt's great that you are concerned for your mother. She has a lot of stuff to be concerned about, and I hope you can take the time to learn about all of the issues.
I feel for you and your mother. It's hard to believe that they can't get her BP under control. I'll give you my best answer on natural means for reducing BP, but I strongly recommend you find a hypertension specialist. The bloodpressureline Yahoo! group is a great resource, as well. It is run by a hypertension specialist who can help you to find someone in your local area.
On the CHF side, you should find a heart failure specialist, as well. (Not just a regular cardiologist!)
Now, as to how to treat it:
1. Do *all* of the obvious things:
a. No smoking
b. Cut out caffeine and alcohol
c. If her BMI isn't < 25, help her figure out how to get it down there. Obesity, more than anything else, is a huge issue. Check out the DASH diet and the rice diet.
d. Reduce sodium intake and increase potassium intake (fresh fruits such as oranges and bananas can help here). — This is actually a very easy thing to do and might bear fruit, so to speak.
e. Make sure she doesn't have sleep apnea. It can cause high BP.
f. Get her regular exercise, even if it is just walking around a few times a day or doing water aerobics. Build up her stamina. Create a log for this, if necessary, so that she can visually see her own progress.
2. Take her BP regularly. If she doesn't have a digital BP cuff, get her one and make sure she knows when and how to use it. (They're remarkably inexpensive… around $50 for a good one at your local pharmacy.) Have her log BP as well as exercise.
3. Work with the hypertension and heart failure specialists to determine if her medications and their dosages are appropriate. Is Betaloc the right beta blocker? Is a calcium channel blocker such as Plendil indicated? Is her ACE inhibitor (Inhibace) at the right dosage, and does she understand the best times of day to take it? Cartia is a calcium channel blocker. Why is she on two different CCBs? Quinine is not FDA-approved for the treatment of leg cramps. There should be a better way for that, IMO. And if she has shortness of breath at night, why in the world isn't she on a diuretic to get the fluids out of her lungs?!
4. Check out chfpatients.com for more information on CHF treatment. Start by reading "the manual". You might also be interested in the "nutrient stew" section.
5. Ask your mother if you can sit in on her doctor appointments. Write out as many questions in advance as possible and send them to the doctor beforehand. You'll get much more thoughtful responses this way.
Please feel free to contact me if you want to chat about any of this…
Good luck!
August 25th, 2010 at 8:31 amYou should have a lot of great suggestions for marketing in your start up package, from the description you gave I'm assuming your business is a direct marketing company that specializes in Natural Health.
If you want to build primarily online, you'll want to network on established natural health forums and comment on established blogs without promoting your business, You will likely be able to have your link in the signature line, but your purpose in networking will be to establish yourself as an expert.
You will also want to start with establishing a contact list that you can make offers to – again you don't want to just make offers, you'll want to provide valuable and qualified information so that your prospects will keep reading your emails and will stay on your list. It takes multiple contacts to build the trust needed to persuade your prospects to buy from you.
Another great marketing technique online is to write short articles and submit them to sites like ezinearticles.com and so on.
Of course, answering related questions on Answers and other sites like it is another great way to establish your expertise.
Building a business goes much faster when you can find a good mentor to help guide you through the first steps and beyond.

August 26th, 2010 at 1:22 amMy friend's son has autism.
She uses The Sonrise Program – which was expensive to get started with – but they can help out with the financial aspect – and you can implement the techniques straightaway for free. He has made enormous improvements socially, with language and with toileting.
She also uses a gluten-free diet. Within two weeks his headbanging stopped completley and his emotional outbursts decreased hugely.
He also takes supplements.
"Kyle's Treehouse" has a lot of information.
Good luck and sorry if this has not been helpful.

August 26th, 2010 at 11:40 amI've found Melatonin to be helpful. Other things that help can be: getting rid of excess sugars in your diet, cut out caffeine, keep regular sleep hours/times, try to only sleep (or have sex) in your bedroom so it is a place of rest, if it's too light in your room put up room darkening shades/curtains, take a warm bath/hot shower before bed, listen to peaceful music/white noise before bed or when you get in. I don't know if this will help too, but I feel best when my pj's are as comfy as possible and I have cozy sheets (especially flannel in the winter). And since stress is impacting your sleep you can try to relieve it by: drinking warm tea, getting a massage, talking over problems with friends/close family, petting a dog/cat, practicing yoga, and/or (if you believe) praying/talking with God or meditation. I wish you luck.

Try "Thursday Plantation" tea-tree acne wash and gel. It's a natural, effective, and easy-on-skin alternative to over-the-counter products. I used it with good results. Remember to wash your face at least twice a day, and pat (not rub!) it dry. Also, have a bottle of "cleansing water" for acne. You can get some at any chemist, and it comes in different brands. A few times during the day, wet a piece of cotton with some, and gently wipe your face to remove the excess sebum and dirt stuck to it.
August 27th, 2010 at 5:31 pmDo you know that almost everyone has had the "acne years"? Don't think less of yourself for the way you look, we've all been through there, and we certainly don't think less of those who are going through this natural stage in life!
